Money talks. At least to my almost 7 year old. Many people think that as a photographer I must have hundreds of wonderful pictures of my own kids, but I am afraid to say it is more like the shoemaker’s children who have no shoes. Believe me, it is not due to lack of trying. They have simply grown tired of the camera and will not give me a good shot to save my life.
Which leads me back to the money. I *really* wanted to get some shots of my oldest son. Knowing that even on a good day I can hold his attention for maybe 10 minutes I approached him with a win-win deal. I would take him for a session – with the clothing of my choice – and for every image I felt was a ‘keeper’ I would give him fifty cents. He seemed very keen on this deal and away we went. Twenty minutes later he walked away seven dollars richer and I walked away a happy photographer *and* mom!
So while I usually don’t suggest bribing your kids for our sessions, sometimes desperate times call for desperate measures. Enjoy!
