And so it is, that I am kicking off a fun new feature of my blog. Each month it will be my goal to highlight another small business in our area. As a small business owner myself, I know just how much heart and soul gets poured into making things work. I am looking forward to this opportunity to shine the light on those other crazy ambitious women like myself!
So it is with great pleasure that I introduce Kim Traff @ RSVP Montgomery:
name: Kim Traff
business: RSVP Montgomery, Inc. (event planning and magazine)
family life: I am married to Michael Traff, owner of T-TEK Material Handling and we have two daughters, Shelby (13) and Payton (9)
Q. As a busy mom and entrepreneur what is your secret to starting the day off right (and please don’t say working out or I might have to hate you!)
A. Grace, you are too funny! I used to work out everyday at 5am, but this year with this new business I work such late nights I haven't had the time or energy to go in the mornings. I usually start my day with a to-do list. It consists of all the things that were reeling through my mind during the night. I take my girls to school everyday and try to get started with my list immediately. Being a new company and not having the finances to hire employees just yet, my partner, Amanda Morrison, and I are busy doing the job of about 8 people. (boy can I relate to that!)
Q. Where are you from?
A. I was born in Charleston, SC. My dad was in the Air Force so we moved around a little but settled here. I would have to call Montgomery my home as I've been here for over 20 years.
Q. What is your favorite thing about Montgomery?
A. My favorite things about Montgomery are the people and the close group of friends that I have developed through social groups. Getting plugged into different organizations allowed me to meet so many different people and to really enrich my friendships. I have made some of my closest friends this way. I also love going to Biscuits ballgames and I love Eastside Grille. It is the gathering place for many of my friends. The great food, family friendly staff, patio and live music makes for a GREAT time!
Q. What’s your favorite ‘indulgence’ that is just for you?
A. With these super high gas prices and doing all the driving around on ad sales calls, getting to treat myself is few and far between. However, I would say that massages or facials or anything that involves a SPA is a real treat for me. Love some pampering!
Q. how would you describe yourself?
A. I am a very high energy person and love taking on multiple tasks. I love my family and doing things with them such as the girls' travel volleyball and spending time at the lake with them are the highlight of my life. I have one button, its green for "GO" but at times it gets the best of me. I have a hard time saying no and tend to overextend myself. I'm working on that thanks to a book called Boundaries. I'll let you know how that goes!
Q. how would your kids describe you?
A. I actually called my girls in for this one. Shelby, my 13 year old, says that I'm fun and easy to talk to. She thinks the business takes way too much of my time, but says that I still stop to do whatever they need me to do or help them with projects. I'm the "taxi" for her group of friends.
Q. Tell us more about all the cool stuff happening with RSVP Montgomery:
A. RSVP Montgomery is really taking off. The magazine was a hit with a positive response that we were not expecting. We had so many incredible emails, calls and comments and it was just the boost we needed to keep going. Our next magazine, our summer issue, will be out July 1. We have some great, fun articles planned so be on the look out! Our singles speed dating is also getting a great response. We start our advertising on the radio for the speed dating this week. Our next speed dating event is June 1 at Eastside Grille for ages 33 to 48. Registration details are available on our website www.rsvp-montgomery.com
